What is Menopause?

Menopause is the natural cessation of a woman’s menstrual cycle, usually taking place around 50 years of age. During menopause, the ovaries stop producing the hormone estrogen, as well as other reproductive hormones, including progesterone.

Menopause is reached when you have not had your menstrual period for 12 consecutive months.

Despite being a perfectly natural physiological process, some menopause symptoms can be unpleasant and can have a significant impact on daily life for some women. Some of the most common menopause symptoms include the following:

  • Hot flashes
  • Difficulty sleeping
  • Night sweats
  • Heart palpitations
  • Mood swings
  • Memory and concentration problems
  • Thinning hair
  • Unwanted hair growth

Due to changing hormone levels, some women experience unwanted hair growth during menopause. This is because during menopause, estrogen levels decrease, but the levels of the male hormone testosterone remain the same.
This imbalance of hormones causes the appearance of some male secondary sex characteristics, such as coarse and/or dark facial hair. AEM can help you remove facial hair to rectify this effect.

Often, women experience unwanted hair growth on the chin, upper lip, sides of face, or cheeks following menopause. The unwanted facial hair growth can include both fine hairs, also called “peach fuzz,” as well as dark and coarse hairs that can grow quickly.

Galvanic electrolysis is considered one of the best ways to remove facial hair after menopause. It effectively eliminates the parts of the hair follicle responsible for hair growth and regeneration, delivering permanent results.

At Advanced Electrolysis Melbourne, we’re very experienced in helping women remove facial hair that’s emerged at this particular life stage, for good.

Our experienced, caring and gentle electrologists will develop a personalised treatment plan that addresses your personal requirements and goals for permanent hair removal after menopause.
